Our Revolution Cambridge is proud to endorse three candidates for City Council and seven candidates for School Committee this fall.

For City Council

City Council challengers Ayah Al-Zubi, Stanislav Rifkin, and incumbent Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler will best help Cambridge meet the challenges threatening our city today.

What does that mean? In light of present and coming federal attacks on the safety net that protects those with the least privilege, they will be strong advocates in support of no-, low-, and moderate-income residents, many of whom are people of color. They are committed to helping residents stay in Cambridge by working for social housing, the Cambridge Community Land Trust, expanded municipal housing vouchers, and tenant protections. They will defend and protect our immigrant and other neighbors against attacks from ICE and other Federal government agencies. They will work to protect our LGBTQIA+ community against all attacks. They will oppose neighborhood surveillance technologies, like ShotSpotter, which do not decrease crime and violenceand they will promote non-police emergency response services, including Cambridge HEART, which will.

They will support policies that protect our environment. They will not be afraid to use their positions to advocate for Palestine and activists who support Palestine. With the wealthy attempting or succeeding at buying national, state, and big city elections, they will resolutely oppose big money in politics and refuse money from developers in their campaigns.

For School Committee

Our Revolution’s School Committee endorsees are challengers Luisa de Paula Santos, Caitlin Dube, Jessica Goetz, Lilly Havstad, Arjun Jaikumar, and incumbents Jose Luis Rojas Villarreal and David Weinstein.  We can count on them to defend all public education stakeholders against the federal assault, advance Cambridge Public School’s (CPS’s) anti-racist mission, work to close resource and opportunity gaps, and prioritize meaningful stakeholder engagement, empowerment, and collaborative decision-making. Our endorsees are committed to making CPS’s controlled choice system more equitable. They are ready to continue the work to replace the failed one-size-fits-all MCAS system with an educationally sound system that recognizes the complexities of educating our students. They support expanding wraparound services for students and families.  As members of the next School Committee, our candidates will return agency to educators, provide them with better salaries, benefits and working conditions, and add a non-voting Cambridge Education Association member to the School Committee.  We believe the incumbents we have endorsed will provide important institutional understanding and that the five challengers will add a sense of urgency that will help move this progressive agenda forward.

Some other Cambridge organizations ask voters to choose candidates based on a single issue.  Our Revolution Cambridge believes that the City Council and School Committee need to do all of the things we have identified here to meet the challenges Cambridge faces. That has always been true, and it is even more important in the face of the current federal assault.
